About Us

Do the Mahi. Get the Treats.

The word ‘Mahi’ comes from Te Reo Māori and means one simple thing:

Work.

I grew up in Aotearoa, New Zealand, where hard work wasn’t something you talked about — it was something you did.

From mowing lawns and picking fruit to working on construction sites at the age of 14, I learnt early that if you wanted something, you earned it.

One of my first jobs was on a commercial concrete and steel site in New Zealand.

During a concrete pour, I was struggling to handle a concrete vibrator that weighed nearly as much as I did.

It didn’t take long before I lost the battle and fell into wet concrete, covered from foot to ear on my right side.

As the crew burst out laughing, one of the older Māori workers calmly reached over,

pulled me out with one arm, hosed me off with a firehose, and sent me straight back to work.

I suggested it might be a good time for smoko. He disagreed. Instead, he looked at me and said:

“Do the Mahi, then get the treats.” A simple phrase I had heard before. Do the work first. The rewards come later.

At 14 years old, I didn’t realise how much those words would shape my life. But years later, after working across New Zealand, Australia, and more than 30 countries around the world, it’s still a philosophy I carry with me every day.

It’s also the reason this company is called MAHI MEDIA

Before founding MAHI MEDIA, I spent years doing all kinds of Mahi. I mowed lawns, picked fruit, delivered mail, built skateboards, worked in restaurants, on construction sites, in warehouses, vineyards and workshops. I worked as a labourer, carpenter, bricklayer, cable layer, delivery driver, cocktail maker, video editor, graphic designer, wedding photographer, drone pilot and filmmaker.

I helped build supermarkets, wineries, homes, theatres and commercial developments across New Zealand and Australia.

Every job taught me something.
Every industry had its own language, its own culture, and its own story.

And that’s what eventually led to MAHI MEDIA.

While working across so many industries and countries, I noticed something:

The people doing incredible work were often the worst at showing it.

The builder creating beautiful homes,

The civil contractor transforming landscapes,

The business owner pouring years of effort into their company,

The couple at the peak of their love for each other.

The stories were everywhere.

But they weren’t being told properly.

That’s where we come in.

MAHI MEDIA was founded on the belief that great media should do more than look good.

It should tell a story. It should create connection, and most importantly it should deliver results.

Today, we combine photography, videography, drone technology, timelapse systems, and strategic storytelling to help businesses, brands, and individuals showcase what makes them unique.

For construction companies, that might mean documenting years of progress and turning it into content that wins future work.

For business owners, it might mean showcasing their expertise and building trust with potential clients.

For couples on their wedding day, it means preserving a moment, freezing their love in time for them to look back on.

Different stories. Same mission.

To capture meaningful work, passionate people, and remarkable achievements in a way that inspires others and stands the test of time.

Because every project, every business, and every person has something worth sharing.

And every day, people are creating stories that deserve to be seen.

At MAHI MEDIA, we believe in doing the MAHI.

Learning the story.
Understanding the people behind it.
And creating media that not only looks incredible — but works.

Because when our clients succeed, we succeed.

“Do the Mahi. Get the Treats.”
